Monica Oliver McCurdy, MSW
Monica Oliver McCurdy, MSW: Ms. McCurdy received her BS degree in Sociology from Rutgers University in 1988 and her MSW from Howard University in 1992, which sparked her interest and commitment to Public Child Welfare for the last twenty-five years.
Ms. McCurdy began her career in Washington DC’s Department of Children and Family Services from 1992-1994 and then continued her work in the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services from 1994-2006. She enjoyed various opportunities within the county systems and worked providing Family Maintenance, Reunification and Adoption Services, Recruitment and Placement Services, and lastly in the Training Section working will all levels of staff.
In 2006 Ms. McCurdy began a ten year journey with UCLA’s Center on Child Welfare, continuing and enhancing her training career both developing and facilitating curriculum for Los Angeles County DCFS staff and community partners in collaboration with the Inter-University Consortium. From 2005-2011 she has also enjoyed lecturer positions in the Schools of Social Work at UCLA and CSULB teaching Advanced Child Welfare and Community Practice classes.
Ms. McCurdy has a breadth of knowledge and experience in developing and facilitating various training topic areas and specializes in integrating cultural humility and appreciation and strength based family centered practice into this work. She has many certificates including Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting, Structured Decision Making, and Wrap Around. In the last several years, Ms. McCurdy has also become a Reiki Channel Practitioner, a Kundalini Yoga Instructor and an Agape Licensed Spiritual Practitioner.
