Martha Velazco, BA

Martha Velazco, BA:  Ms. Velazco received her BA in Human Development from California State University San Marcos in 2000.  Her passion is teaching and promoting cultural humility and implementing inclusiveness within the workplace and the community.  Ms. Velazco is bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

Ms. Velazco has worked with the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency –Child Welfare Services since 2001.  She has over 14 years of experience working with at-risk children and families in a variety of settings.  Ms. Velazco has worked in various programs which include; Emergency Response, Court Intervention, Continuing Services and Adoptions.  Since 2012, Ms. Velazco has been a Protective Service Supervisor in the Adoptions Program.  She supervises a blended unit of both Children’s workers and Family Resource Workers.  Ms. Velazco oversees case management and permanency planning for dependent children which include assessing the parent/child relationships and the adoptability of children.  Ms. Velazco has developed the ability to work in this complex role and understand the significant emotional issues surrounding adoption including attachment, grief and loss.

Ms. Velazco has been a trainer since 2006 for Grossmont College Foster, Adoptive and Kinship Care Education Program.  She currently teaches Trauma Informed Pre-Service (TIPS) curriculum and also assisted in the development of the newly enhanced training.  Ms. Velazco also teaches   Adoption Preparation classes that consist of 7 different topics.  These classes are taught both in English and Spanish throughout San Diego County.   Ms. Velazco is Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (S.A.F.E.) certified.

Ms. Velazco is the mother of three adult sons and one teenage daughter.  She enjoys spending quality family time and entertaining friends and family.
