Steven M. Walker, MSW

Steven M. Walker received a Master of Social Work Degree from the San Francisco State University. A strong advocate for children and families he has over 25 years of experience in Child Welfare. Steven spent many years in the San Francisco Bay Area developing his social work skills, where he worked in Group Homes, Adolescent Psychiatric Care facilities, and Juvenile Probation with the City and County of San Francisco. Steven has been with the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services since 1998 where he started in the Children’s Services Division as an Emergency Response Social Worker.

Steven has served as a Court Officer in the Riverside Juvenile Court, a Policy writer in Children’s Services administrative services branch and he was a Children’s Services Supervisor II for nine years supervising a variety of operational field units including investigations, continuing services and a combination hybrid unit for the Children’s Services Division. Steven joined Staff Development and is a Staff Development Officer (SDO) with the Administrative Services Division.

In addition to his aforementioned roles, Steven has been a trainer/educator for the last eight years, where he was already training for Riverside County Staff Development for three years. In his current position as a SDO, he is responsible for curriculum development and delivery for child welfare social workers, supervisors and managers. He is one of three trainers responsible for serving over 700 staff. In his role as a SDO, he is not only responsible for the development and delivery of curriculum; he also conducts training needs assessments, coordinates training events and supervises trainees.

Steven trains with a passion and confidence. He is creative and takes into consideration adult learning principles and learning styles when he develops and delivers curriculum. Steven is professional, responsible and reliable. He adheres to the Department’s mission, vision and core values. Steven is a single parent he has one son (Josiah) where he enjoys the blessings of fatherhood. Steven is an enthusiastic golfer and he also loves to take his Jack Russell Terrier (Percy) on long walks.
