Michael Meyers, MA

Mr. Meyers received his Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Brigham Young University in 1990 and his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute in 1996.  He is currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology from Northcentral University, having completed the coursework and currently working on his dissertation.

Mr. Meyers has specialized in child welfare since earning his Master’s degree.  He has worked in group homes, foster family agencies, and in the public child welfare sector. He began working as a Senior Social Worker for Orange County Children and Family Services in 1996.  He has worked in most aspects of child welfare, including emergency response, investigations, shelter care, continuing court and group homes.

Mr. Meyers is a strong advocate for youth voices and for permanent connections.  He is passionate about ensuring placement disruptions are minimized and that youth behaviors are normalized.  He believes permanency is found in relationships, not in where a foster child sleeps, and that every child has someone who will provide that permanency.  With this mindset he was successful in leading Orange County in reducing the number of children in group homes from nearly 500 to just over 100 in the course of four years.

With his experience in the field of business, Mr. Meyers appreciates the need to document and verify information before presenting it.  His methods are logical, comprehensive, and provide the foundation for good case work.  In his time as a social worker, he was only called on twice to testify.  He attributes this to good, solid social work and the necessary documentation to back it all up.
