Intended Audience:  This course is intended for social workers, supervisors and/or managers interested in learning about Strategies to Support the LA CPM.

Description of Course:  The course provides an overview of the foundational theories and practices that comprise the framework of safety organized practice. The training will expose the learner to the integrated approach organized around safety and offer opportunities for practicing concrete tools.  These strategies draws on a variety of methods and tools including Structured Decision-Making, trauma-focused practice, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, appreciative inquiry, and Signs of Safety. The training will help the learner to conduct balanced, rigorous assessments that focus on both safety and danger as well as how to use conversations with families and their networks to facilitate change..

Intended Objectives:

• Describe and begin writing harm and danger statements
• Describe and begin writing safety goals
• Develop an understanding of the purpose of safety mapping and how it is used
• Review strategies for using solution-focused questions and appreciative inquiry to plan for key case decisions with a family
• Review strategies for building a safety network with a family
