After 18 Learning Day
Level: Advanced Practice – Workers, Supervisors and Managers carrying cases with After 18 youth

Intended Audience: Workers, supervisors, and managers who carry cases of After 18 (Extended Foster Care) youth
Description of Course: The Academy for Professional Excellence is coordinating a day in which line workers and supervisors from Southern California counties come together to discuss a variety of issues related to After 18 (Extended Foster Care) youth. We are looking for workers, supervisors, and managers who are interested in helping pave the way forward in working with this population and have creative ideas for how to keep improving outcomes for After 18 youth. This Learning Day will include small and large group discussion, break-out sessions, andĀ time for counties to do some strategic planning on their own. Participants are asked to send any questions they would like discussed during the day when they register for theĀ event. Participants are also asked to bring examples of tools they have successfully used with this population (for example, a safety map done with After 18 youth).
Intended Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify interventions that have been successful for working with After 18 youth
- Participants will broaden their knowledge of resources for After 18 youth
- Participants will develop a plan for ongoing training and coaching regarding the After 18 population
Topics Include:
- How to define eligibility criteria
- Funding requirements and ending payments
- Providing due diligence to the court to terminate eligibility
- Re-entry process
- Independence mapping
- Resources
