Crisis Intervention with Adolescents
Level: Advanced Practice – Lineworker
Credits: 6
Intended Audience: New and current child welfare personnel wanting to enhance their ability to provide effective crisis intervention to adolescents in trouble
Intended Objectives:
- Identify the stressors affecting adolescents in care.
- Examine how thoughts and perceptions influence behaviors
- Discuss the concepts of irrational beliefs and defense mechanisms
- Present the dynamics of the Conflict cycle paradigm
- Identify the four choices in handling adolescent behavior
- Practice specific talking strategies to de-escalate crisis events and help youth gain insight into their self-defeating pattern of behaving
