Multidisciplinary Practice with Social Workers, Law Enforcement and the Courts

Intended Audience: New and current child welfare personnel who are seeking information to enhance their abilities to work effectively with representatives from varied disciplines
Intended Objectives:
- To discuss the importance of developing a multidisciplinary child abuse team that includes representatives of various disciplines
- To highlight the ramifications of the term “team”
- To identify the knowledge, skills and experience needed for creating an effective multidisciplinary child abuse team
Topics Include:
- An overview of the history of child abuse teams
- Team formation
- Multidisciplinary team challenges
- Team conflict/resistance
- Team culture
CalSWEC Competencies Addressed:
3.3 Student demonstrates the ability to evaluate and incorporate information from others, including family members and professionals in assessment, treatment planning, and service delivery.
3.11 Student has knowledge of and understands how to work collaboratively with other disciplines that are routinely involved in child welfare cases.
3.19 Student understands and utilizes their role as case manager in creating and sustaining a helping system for clients.
