Intended Audience: This course is intended for social workers, supervisors and managers interested in learning about Safety Organized Practice and safety planning with families

Description of Course: The course provides training on writing clear, behaviorally-based safety plans that directly address the danger and that utilize a safety network to develop and execute the plan. It covers the importance of safety planning throughout the life of a case, planning for behavior change to create ongoing and sustainable
safety vs. planning for service compliance or service completion, and the value in writing safety plans through a collaborative process.

Intended Objectives:

• Describe the importance of insight vs. action regarding safety
• Review three kinds of safety plans (immediate, ongoing, and aftercare plans)
• List the ways a safety network can be used to develop, monitor and execute a safety plan
• Understand how safety mapping connects with Structured Decision Making
• Understand the difference between planning for behavior change vs. planning for service completion
