How To Stay Rigorous and Balanced: Training for Trainers

This three-day “training for trainers” workshop is designed to provide support in training and coaching of the two-day workshop entitled “The Structured Decision Making® (SDM) System in Practice” for DCFS and UCCF trainers and coaches. This workshop that integrates the Structured Decision Making system and integrated practices with the values and practices of Los Angeles County’s Core Practice Model to child welfare supervisors across Los Angeles County.
During the first two days of the workshop, participants will observe delivery of the two-day workshop while becoming familiar with training materials, classroom methodology and curriculum trainer’s guide. The third day will focus on training tips and strategies for delivering this integrated curriculum to supervisors in a classroom and coaching setting. In addition, participants will engage in preparation and “teach-back” sessions to increase confidence in content and delivery.
Learning Objectives
Learning goals for the integrated practice workshop include:
- Understand how Structured Decision Making assessments and integrated practices strategies and tools can be incorporated into core practice model activities;
- Learn, use and support caseworker development of key foundational skills of integrated SDM practice in the supervisory and field advisor role;
- Understand, use, as well as support caseworker skills in integrating the practice and results of the SDM assessments as part of Core Practice Model engagement and teaming activities.
