The Effects of Abuse and Neglect on Child Development: School-Aged Children eLearning
Intended Audience: Experienced or newly hired child welfare service personnel providing direct service with children and families.
Intended Objectives:
- Identify the effects of abuse, neglect, and trauma for the school aged child
- Recognize other influences on development such as social, family, and environmental contexts
- Be able to describe the effects of trauma and abuse
- Describe practice considerations when dealing with school-aged children who have been exposed to trauma or abuse
Topics Include:
- The effects of “normal” and traumatic or abusive experiences on child development
- Domains of functioning: physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and educational
- Types of abuse and specific issues relating to child characteristics
- Supportive Child Welfare Practice
- Case plan considerations
- Treatment considerations
- Placement considerations
