Working with Sexual Offenders
Level: Advanced Practice—Lineworker

Intended Audience: New and current child welfare personnel who want to advance their skills and knowledge about working with sexual offenders
Intended Objectives:
- To acquaint participants with the different types of sexual offenders and their common characteristics
- To provide participants with interview techniques that can help and/or hinder eliciting desired information from offenders
- To familiarize participants with assessment and treatment techniques utilized with sexual offenders
- To increase participants awareness of pertinent case management issues
Topics Include:
- Sexual Offenders: Who Are They?
- Committing their Crime
- The Assessment of Sexual Offenders
- Treatment with Sexual Offenders
- The Professional Relationship with Sex Offenders
- Case Management Considerations
CalSWEC Competencies Addressed:
2.3 Student recognizes and accurately identifies physical, emotional and behavioral indicators of child abuse, child neglect and child sexual abuse in child victims and their families.
3.7 Student assesses family dynamics, including interactions and relationships, roles, power, communication patterns, functional and dysfunctional behaviors and other family processes.
4.5 Student can recognize when human development is delayed or follows abnormal patterns and can identify contributing factors.
