Trainer Biography
Dianna Barrantes, MSW
Ms. Barrantes received her BA in Political Science from Whittier College in 1998 and her MSW from San Diego State University in 2006. Ms. Barrantes is waiting to get approval from the Board of Behavioral Sciences to take her final test so that she may become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is tricultural, her parents respectively are from Colombia and Peru, and she is fluent in Spanish.
Ms. Barrantes’s area of expertise is child abuse, specifically medically fragile children and deaf clients. She has worked with disabled clients since 1998, first as a service coordinator for the Regional Center where she cofounded the first parent support group for Spanish speaking parents of autistic children. In 2002, she began working for San Diego County’s Child Welfare Services as a protective services worker. She promoted to supervisor in 2008.
Currently, she is still employed by San Diego’s Child Welfare Services and is the supervisor for the Agency’s Medically Fragile and Deaf Services Investigation Units. Unlike most units within the Agency that are regionalized, her units cover the entire County of San Diego.
She interfaces on a daily basis with medical personnel, law enforcement, legal, and other community agencies. In addition, she works as a trainer for Public Child Welfare Training Academy and regularly supervises MSW and BA interns for San Diego State University.
