Trainer Biography
Laurie Horton,LCSW
Ms Horton received her MSW from San Diego State University in 1992. In 1994 She became a licensed as a Clinical Social Worker. Ms Horton specializes in Child Abuse and Prevention. She began her career as a volunteer on call crisis counselor and then became a residential care worker in shelters for at risk youth. After graduation she worked per diem with Children’s Hospital Chadwick Center and also supervised a federally funded pilot program for at risk youth and their families. From there she transitioned to the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, Child Welfare Services in 1995 as a Protective Services Worker. She worked in Residential Services with children who required therapeutic placements due to severe emotional/behavioral and mental health issues and the Institutions Evaluations Unit which monitored contracts with those therapeutic placements and investigated allegations of abuse in their care. She also worked in placement and with the San Pasqual Academy a residential education campus designed specifically for foster teens. She promoted to a Protective Services Supervisor in 2001 and supervised investigation in Emergency Reponses for 9 years. Currently she is the Continuous Quality Improvement Policy Analyst for the North Coastal Region.
