Intended Audience: This self-paced module are for child welfare staff and partners/stakeholders who want to learn more about creating trauma-informed child welfare systems.
Description of Course: This course is a one hour self-paced eLearning module that defines trauma within the context of the child welfare system, the eleven essential elements of a trauma informed child welfare system, discussion of secondary traumatic stress, screening and treatment of trauma, and resources to create trauma-informed child welfare systems.
Intended Objectives:
- Identify the definition of Child Traumatic Stress
- Recognize at least 8 factors that contribute to a child’s experience and reaction to trauma
- Define the 11 essential elements of a Child Trauma Informed Child Welfare System
- Recognize at least 8 signs of secondary traumatic stress in professional staff and caregivers in the child welfare system.
- Identify 2 personal and 2 systemic strategies in managing secondary traumatic stress
- Identify 3 core components in assessing children exposed to trauma
- Identify 5 core components of evidence based trauma treatment
- Identify at least 3 resources for creating trauma informed child welfare systems
