Cultural Humility for Child Welfare Leaders

Level:           Advanced Practice

Credits:        6 hours

 Intended Audience:  Child Welfare Leadership (Supervisors, managers and deputy directors)

Description of Course: The purpose of this training is to engage participants in discussion and exercises aimed at integrating cultural intelligence, cultural humility and organizational leadership to better facilitate child & family safety, well-being and permanency planning. Through this workshop, participants will improve practice skills of engagement and collaboration that demonstrate improved cultural understanding of self, other members of the workforce and implications for organizational and relational cultures.

Intended Objectives:

■     Define cultural relevance that differentiates cultural competence and cultural humility

■     Recognize and implement cultural inclusion that incorporates intersectionality  of identities as part of relational engagement

■     Frame culturally responsive practice inclusive of cultural humility in organizational practices to facilitate child and family safety.

 Topics Include:

Using reflective exercises, small group activities and discussion, this training is designed to assist child welfare personnel in utilizing a culturally responsive perspective, and ways to recognize and address barriers and obstacles to this perspective in order to promote collaboration and inclusive organizational practice. Implications for safety planning will also presented.
