Trainer Biography
Juan Camarena, PhD, LMFT, LPCC
Juan Camarena is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and Sex Therapist certified by the American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. Dr. Camarena is the Executive Director of the San Diego State University Center for Community Counseling & Engagement and is also a Lecturer in the Department of Counseling and School Psychology. Dr. Camarena has taught multicultural counseling courses since 2003 and frequently integrates his background in publically-funded community mental health centers in his teaching and research.
Dr. Camarena also provides psychotherapy at his independent practice with specialties in sex, gender, and culturally-affirming therapies. He has been passionate about teaching and learning, social-justice focused research, and combating marginalization via psychotherapy since receiving his Master’s degree in Counseling from San Diego State University with specializations in Community Counseling, School Counseling, and Marriage & Family Therapy. Dr. Camarena also received his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Human Sexuality, with clinical concentrations, from Widener University.
