Trainer Biography
Theresa Carroll, DNP, RN, LCSW
Dr. Theresa Carroll graduated from the University of St Augustine for Health Sciences with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice with high honors. She also completed her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social work at San Diego State University, with an emphasis in Clinical Practice, and is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. Dr. Carroll is a trainer and behavioral health consultant who has provided therapeutic services to clients with mental health crisis, severe and persistent mental health diagnosis, dual diagnosis and substance use disorders. She has worked as both a LCSW and a Registered Nurse in the field of mental health for more than 20 years. She currently works within the Sharp Healthcare organization, focusing on psychosocial evaluations, mental health crisis intervention and providing expert consultation for managing psychiatric concerns on medical floors. She teaches disruptive patient management and de-escalation strategies to staff across the hospital system. She also facilitates clinical supervision for Master’s level staff at Assertive Community Treatment programs for CRF. Dr. Carroll has participated in several community-training presentations related to crisis de-escalation for community skilled nursing facilities, senior centers and housing programs.
Dr. Carroll has extensive training in psychosocial assessment, high-risk screening, dual diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DTB), Motivational Interviewing (MI), trauma informed therapy practices. She has published work on early recognition and treatment of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome (AWS). Dr. Carroll is a proponent of integrating knowledge of medical and mental health practices to provide whole person care.
