Trainer Biography
LaTysa Flowers
LaTysa Flowers is the Founder of Parents Empowerment Services, which provides educational advocacy, consultation and coaching for the parents and caregivers of children with academic, developmental and social emotional challenges. She is the mother of four adult children, and known as GiGi, to two amazing grandsons, Gavyn age 5 and Gabryel age 20 months! LaTysa is a graduate and alumni of the California Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities interdisciplinary program earning her distinction as an expert in discipline of Family Support completing a 2 year long-term fellowship. She is a certified Positive Discipline Educator for parents, classroom management and early childhood professionals where she teaches both trauma informed and culturally responsive practices that promote dignity, mutual respect and healthy relationships.
Within the Children, Youth and Families System of Care, LaTysa is a Contractor for the Academy for Professional Excellence where she is a subject matter expert, facilitator and curriculum consultant for the Cultural Responsiveness Academy, of Child Welfare Developmental Services (CWDS) and a trainer for Responsive Integrated Health Solutions (RIHS). She facilitates several trainings to include Pathways and Child & Family Team Facilitation, Safety Organized Practice, Safety Organized Approach to Domestic Violence: Partnering with the Survivor, African American Worldview, and Engaging African American Families and several others.
As a community volunteer, she serves as a member of the Children Youth and Families Training Academy Committee and Early Childhood Mental Health Subcommittee. She has experience as a planning committee member, a panelist, conference speaker and session presenter for several of local and state conferences such as California Mental Health Advocates for Children and Youth (CMHACY 2015), California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS 2018), We Can’t Wait Early Childhood Mental Health Conference (2019) and Birth of Brilliance Early Childhood Mental Health Conference (2021). LaTysa also volunteers her time as a commissioned Court Appointed Special Advocate for Voices for Children lending her voice to amplify the needs, perspectives, concerns and educational rights of children within our courts juvenile dependency system.
Through her systems partnerships, she utilizes her empirical experience to provide excellence in training and development producing confident parent leaders and informed systems professionals. Her strengths are providing professional development for support partners, community organizations and system partners to strengthen the families in our local, state and national platforms. Her life’s work consists of efforts to reduce inequities and bias in education, elimination of the preschool to prison pipeline, and building the capacity of adults and caregivers to meet the needs of our most vulnerable populations through education and training.
LaTysa is currently employed with the YMCA of San Diego County where the mission is youth development, social responsibility and healthy living. She provides organizational leadership, training and development on inclusion, anti-racism and culturally responsive practices.
