Child Welfare Information and Data

The California Child Welfare Indicators Project (CCWIP) is a collaborative venture between the University of California at Berkeley (UCB) and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). The project is housed in the School of Social Welfare, and provides policymakers, child welfare workers, researchers, and the public with direct access to customizable information on California’s entire child welfare system.

County SIPs (System Improvement Plans) and CSAs (County Self-Assessments) are listed on the CDSS (California Department of Social Services) website. Trainers should know what our counties have identified as system improvements as you design training, so you can address emerging issues. Please take some time to review SIPs for San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Child Welfare Information Gateway connects child welfare and related professionals to comprehensive information and resources to help protect children and strengthen families. We feature the latest on topics from prevention to permanency, including child abuse and neglect, foster care, and adoption.

The following literature review on Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) was compiled for our SACHS Directors and highlights an array of current efforts and components that merit additional attention when considering residential placement types and the provision of services to this vulnerable population.

The following literature review on Innovative Approaches to Reducing Poverty was compiled for the purpose of providing a compilation of research findings, recommendations, innovative strategies and evidence-based solutions that hold promise in improving outcomes and meeting the multiple needs of low-income individuals and families living in poverty.

There are a number of excellent sources for keeping up to date on child welfare happenings. As trainers and coaches it is important that we review resources and research on new initiatives, best practice, strategies for advancing our work with children and families and trends occurring in our field. It is vital that our trainers and coaches remain aware of new information so that they can draw on this knowledge in the training room and help trainees make connections between curriculum and practice.
