Trainer Biography
Claire Henry Enemark
Claire Henry Enemark is the Program Director for San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition’s, Crisis Counseling Program. She has worked with the refugee community in San Diego since 2011 and specializes in newcomer support and peer-based mental health services. She holds a Bachelor’s in International Development Studies and Spanish from Point Loma Nazarene University. Claire has been working with clients from diverse international backgrounds since 2009, when she lived in the Dominican Republic for two years while working for the microfinance firm Esperanza. Upon returning to the US Claire worked with the International Rescue Committee where she developed curricula for refugee youth, then became the San Diego Unified School District’s first-ever refugee family liaison. Claire currently serves as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for the Karen Organization of San Diego, which both serves and is led by refugees from Burma. She brings a keen focus on the role of cross-cultural communication and bridge building between the refugee community in San Diego and the public institutions that serve them.
Claire is a passionate advocate for mental health. She is a certified Peer Support Specialist with expertise in trauma-informed care and harm reduction, and training from Mental Health Association of San Francisco in mental health crisis management. In 2021, Claire helped the San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition build its Crisis Counseling Program—the first program in San Diego designed to serve both the resource navigation and mental health needs of the region’s refugee communities, with 100% of the staff representative of the refugee communities served. She continues to direct this program, overseeing a team of 27 individuals speaking 13 languages.
