Carl Deertz Jr. earned his Master of Social Work degree from SDSU in 2012 with a concentration in Administration and Community Development. Carl joined the Academy in August of 2016 as a Training Assistant.
Prior to Carl joining the Academy, he has had a variety of experience working with youth. Carl has been a Teaching Assistant to help underserved youth/foster youth gain access to college. Carl’s graduate internship was at an after-school program, which provided educational and recreational opportunities for children at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. After his graduate internship, he became a Lead Inclusion Aide working with Inclusion Aides in different schools to help students with social/emotional behavioral challenges remain in their after-school programs.
Carl has also had experience working in the field of behavioral health. Carl was a coordinator for an Independent Living Association, which rated and assessed shared living homes for those with a behavioral health diagnosis. Carl has also been an Education Coordinator for a program that worked to increase computer literacy for those with a behavioral health diagnosis working with local clubhouses and BHS organizations.
Carl currently serves as the Evaluation Development Analyst for the Strategy & Outcomes team.
