Can you briefly tell us about your role and impact within the Academy for Professional Excellence?

I initially joined the Academy in 2012 as a Training and Curriculum Specialist for RIHS (formerly known as BHETA). I worked in that role for a year and a half before moving away to Sacramento. I came back to work for the Academy as the Workforce Development Coordinator for CWDS in October of 2017. I have been in my current role since September of 2019.

As a Training Manager for the Responsive Integrated Health Solutions (RIHS) program, I get to support my team by providing guidance and coaching around curriculum development, transfer of learning, trainer development, stakeholder relationship management, and more. I am directly involved in the oversight of all eLearning and webinar development for our team and I support our Cultural Competency Academy in program enhancements and quality assurance.

What do you enjoy the most about working at the Academy?

I work with some of the most talented, intelligent, passionate, and caring colleagues. Universally, I would say that every member of this organization is committed to the mission and to ensuring our stakeholders have the resources and tools to help the community I live in thrive. I get to be innovative and try on new things and there is never a dull moment.

How has working at the Academy transformed your career and/or life?

As a learning organization, I have had the opportunity to grow from my interactions with staff and leaders across nearly all of our programs over the years. I have felt supported to try on new roles and set stretch goals and collaborate on projects that have increased my skills. I have learned to attend to relationships as much as tasks that have resulted in overall better work products and deeper relationships with my colleagues. The Academy has also affirmed my values around social justice, anti-stigma, and life-long learning.

What is a fun fact we should know about you?

When I was twelve my first job was a clown’s assistant and I learned to make balloon animals.
