Staff Biography

Amy Rivas
CWDS County Consultant, Orange & San Bernardino

Amy Rivas is currently a County Consultant at the Academy for Professional Excellence, where she works in partnership with San Bernardino and Orange County in the delivery of Child Welfare Development Services (CWDS).

Over the past decade, Amy has worked in both nonprofit and government organizations across Los Angeles and San Diego County, specifically in child welfare and K-12 educational systems. Through her professional experience, Amy has a broad range of direct-service and research experience centered on supporting children, youth, and families. As a former CalSWEC MSW student, Amy interned at the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in Los Angeles County but began her social work career as a protective services worker in child welfare services in San Diego County. Prior to her transition at the Academy, Amy worked in a school-based national nonprofit where she coordinated the BSW/MSW internship program by sustaining partnerships with local universities and managed a team of social workers who were providing direct services to students and families in Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

Amy served as an adjunct professor for a Masters-level social welfare policy course where she used critical race theory and intersectionality framework to support student learning. Amy earned both her MSW with a specialization in Public Child Welfare and BA in Sociology and Education Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is a very proud DOUBLE BRUIN.
