Stacy McGee Thomas, MA

Stacy McGee Thomas serves as a County Consultant for both San Diego and Imperial counties. She has been involved with child welfare for almost two decades and more recently served as a Practice Coach for the Academy. Stacy holds a M.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Riverside and a M.A. in African American Studies from UCLA.
Stacy has held various positions in child welfare, from group homes to investigations. She has also served as a victim advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors with the United States Navy.
In addition to working in the social services arena, Stacy has experience as a higher education instructor designing and teaching social science and ethnic studies courses.

Can you briefly tell us about your role and impact within the Academy for Professional Excellence?
I provide coaching and training to child welfare workers and supervisors. I encourage critical thinking about important decisions our social workers make on a day-to-day basis that affect children, families, and the workforce.
What do you enjoy the most about working at the Academy?
I appreciate the Academy’s culture of innovation, inquire, and inspiration. I love that our leaders are thoughtful and have our best interest at heart all while constantly working to provide innovative and inspirational deliveries to our partners.
How has working at the Academy transformed your career and/or life?
The Academy has given me more of a sense of value within an organization. I have learned to harness my strong points, as well as others, and use them to contribute to a larger mission. I have also learned how to achieve balance in my work and family life yet still realize my potential.
What is a fun fact we should know about you?
I like to vacation in the tropical rainforest jungle of Belize. I have been about a dozen times.
